1978: Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna.

Specialization in Orthopedy and Traumatology at the University of Bologna, and in Physiotherapy at the University of Parma.

  • May 1980 – June 1989: Assistant and Medical Assistant at the Orthopedics and Traumatology ward of the Hospital S.Maria Nuova in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
  • July 1989 – June 2000: MD at the Rizzoli Orthopedics Institute in Bologna, 1st division ward.
  • From June 2000 he is in charge of an autonomous unit of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, which he directs from 2012.
  • 2013-2014: Deputy Director of the Special Orthopedic-Trauma Pathology Department of the IOR.

Fluent French, basic English.

Basic knowledge and use of the Office package and the Internet.

  • 1980-2000: teacher for the Professional Nursing School in Reggio Emilia and Bologna.
  • From 2002 to 2012: contract professor at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialization School of the University of Bologna, for the course in Shoulder and Elbow Pathology.
  • Presently, he teaches at the University Master "Biomechanics, pathology and therapeutic treatment of the upper limb" at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute.
  • Participation as speaker or moderator at over 400 national and international conventions.
  • Publication of 10 chapters in orthopedics volumes, and of 150 scientific works in the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology, 84 of which indexed in PubMed.
  • At the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute he has been in charge of 16 current research project and has collaborated to 64 more projects.
  • With his collaborators, he realized 5 patents in the field of shoulder and elbow pathology.
  • He organized national congresses on shoulder and elbow pathology and, from 2007, a biennal international perfecting course in Elbow Surgery (Rizzoli advanced Elbow Course).
  • From 2002, he is associate member of the SECEC (Societé Europenne de la Chirurgie de l’Epaule e du Coude), and became ordinary member in 2013.
  • He is among the editorial board of the “Musculoskeletal Surgery” review.
  • He has been advisor (from 2005), vice-president (from 2009) and is, from January 1st 2013, President of the Italian Society of Shoulder and Elbow surgery (SICSeG).
  • From 2002 he is associated member, and from 2013 regular member, of the SECEC (Societé Europenne de la Chirurgie de l’Epaule e du Coude).
  • From 2004 he is member of the editorial committee, and from 2011 of the Editorial Board, of the orthopaedic review “Musculoskeletal Surgery- Chirurgia degli Organi di Movimento“.
  • From 2005 he is member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SICSeG), and he was President of the society for the years 2013-2014.
  • From 2015 he is in charge of the research line "Medical Orthopaedic Pathology" at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute.
  • From 2016 he is member of AO Trauma Europe.

Traumatic and degenerative shoulder and elbow pathology (regenerative medicine for rotator cuffs and shoulder and elbow prostheses).
