July 10th, 1980: Specialization in Radiology at the University of Bologna, with honors.
July 11th, 1983: Specialization in Nuclear Medicine at the University of Bologna, with honors.
1987: Qualification as Head Physician. Final grade: 90/100.

From November 26th, 1979 to July 31st, 1987: employed at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna as Assistant Radiologist MD.
From August 1st, 1987 to September 10th, 2000: employed at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna as co-Head MD (in charge of the functional unit “First Aid Traumatological Radiology”).

He is editor of 7 books about muscular-skeletal radiology, and has edited over 170 print publications. Furthermore, he participated  to scientific events as teacher (approx. 40), moderator (approx. 20), speaker (approx. 20), co-speaker (approx. 40). He has also been invited to present relations and lectures in over 100 scientific events.

In addition, he participated as teacher/auditor to numerous events, both in Italy and abroad, on scientific topics and/or health management. 

 

Role in scientific societies:
Member of the Italian Association of Medical Radiology (SIRM) from 1981.
Member of the Skeletal Radiology Section of SIRM from 1981, for which he has been first Councilor and then President.
Member of the Tumor Center of the Locomotor System of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute from 1981.
Founding member of the Association for the study and cure of tumors and bones and of soft tissues, constituted in Bologna on December 14th, 1982.
Member of the European Society of Muscular-Skeletal system from 1995.
Member of the Italian Sarcoma Group (I.S.G.) from 1997.
Founding member of the Italian Society of Computer-Assisted Orthopedic Surgery  (SICOE), constituted in Turin on October 25th, 2000.
Member of the Vascular and Interventionist Radiology Section of SIRM from 2002.

For many years, he has been committed to interventionist radiology, of which he is refining and widening the diagnostic, and especially therapeutically, applications. In the last years, he is efficaciously applying pulsed radiofrequency to painful pathologies of rachis. He performs numerous procedures of CT-guided interventionist radiology (ago-biopsies, thermo-ablations, vertebral-cement plastics, discographies, symptomatic treatments  for discal hernias and rachis arthrosis, treatment of articular bone cyst and eosinophil granulomas). In particular, in the last five years he has performed, as first operator, over 400 ago-biopsies, 250 thermo-ablations, 250 symptomatic treatments  for discal hernias, 200 lumbar and cervical facet syndromes, 70 vertebral plastics).
