Course on Musculoskeletal Pathology

A moment of the course: analysis of radiological examinations of a clinical caseSince 1974 we have held the Course on Musculoskeletal Pathology first started by Prof. Mario Campanacci with Prof. W.F. Enneking as Visiting Professor.  In the following years the Course Directors were Prof. Mario Mercuri, Dr. Piero Picci, and Dr. Franco Bertoni, with, for many years, Dr. D.S. Springfield as visiting Professor, alternated to Prof. H. Mankin, Mirra, D. Vanel, P. Hogendorn, M. Gehbardt, and F.H. Sim. In 2012 the Course has reached its 25th Edition. The Course sees the participation of 80-100 attendees, half of whom come from abroad.

The Course is now organized by the following from Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli with some Visiting Professors.

It consists in a 5-day update on bone and soft tissue tumors, with particular emphasis on clinico-pathologic and radiologic correlations and includes practical studies at the microscope. It is structured to be addressed to orthopaedic surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and basic researchers. The aim of course is to improve knowledge and competence for these diseases in a multidisciplinary team.

The Course starts each morning with the discussion and correction quizzes on the topics discussed the day before. At the end of each session plenty of time is dedicated to the discussion of cases with the participation of the audience. During the Course, microscopes are available to study pathological slides. The last day participants are grouped to into a several multidisciplinary teams and are given an unknown case to stage and discuss in front of the audience.

The Course fee of 500,00 Euro includes coffee breaks, 4 work lunches, the course dinner and the Course syllabus. For residents with certification there is a special fee of 350,00 Euro.
The official language is English with no translation. Italian Continuing Education Credits for doctors and biologists are available and were about 34 for past editions.
