Line of research - General orthopedics and traumatology

The clinical and laboratory researches concerning orthopaedic physiopathology and reparative processes of the bone converge in this research line, with the aim to improve the treatment of patients presenting re-modeling alterations.

The research line pursuits the following objectives:

  • Identification of the physiopathology mechanisms of bone remodeling;
  • Molecular characterization of mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics, developed by microorganisms causative of orthopaedic infections;
  • Finalization and validation of innovative surgical techniques for the different muscular-skeletal districts (upper limb, lower limb, pelvis, vertebral column), with a special commitment to mini-invasive techniques;
  • Validation of the clinical results of massive osteoarticular transplants and of reconstructions with massive drafts, involving the vertebral column;
  • Analysis of innovative prosthesis systems for bone stabilization and osteosynthesis;
  • Identification of risk factors in the onset of orthopaedic infections, especially when associated to implants, and finalization of treatments for prophylaxis and infection therapy.
