Personal information - Education and work experience



1981: Degree in Biology at the University of Bologna, final grade: 110/110 cum laude.

1985: Specialist degree in Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry at the University of Parma, final grade: 50/50 cum laude.

Assignements at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute:

  • 1978 - 1989: Research grant at the Biocompatibility Lab;
  • 1989 - 2000: staff research biologist at the Biocompatibility Lab;
  • since February 2000: trasferred to the Medical Technology Lab;
  • since 2009: person in charge for Post marketing surveillance of Medical devices;
  • since its beginning, she has been involved in the Prometeo Lab, RIT Department.



  • 1999-2003: "Biomaterials" degree in Biomedical Engineering, University of Bologna-Cesena.
  • 1989 – 1999: Specialized course in "Biomaterials in Prosthetic Surgery" University of Bologna.
  • 1994 –1999: Specialized course "Biomedical Technology in articular reconstructive surgery", University of Bologna.

She published nearly 250 scientific papers.
She is Section Editor for the "Hip International" Journal.

She is responsible for data collection of RIPO (Register of Orthopedic Implants of the region Emilia-Romagna in Italy). She runs REPO (Register of Explanted Prostheses of the Rizzoli Institute, being involved in postmarketing surveillance of orthopaedic medical devices.
She is responsible for the Biological Unit in the Medical Technology Lab, where problems related to tissue reaction to orthopaedic prostheses as well as mechanobiology of bone and bone cells are studied.
