Prof. Maurilio Marcacci, director of the III Orthopaedic Clinic and of the Laboratory of Biomechanics of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, organized for April 22nd and 23rd the two-day  EFORT EXMEX Forum in Bologna.

“EFORT is the International Society that groups all the European Orthopaedic and Traumatology Scientific Societies, it is the European equivalent of the famous “American Academy for orthopaedic surgeons – explains Marcacci. – For its high scientific value the meeting held at Rizzoli is the most important in Europe this year: Experts Meet Experts, International experts in orthopaedics and traumatology meet specialists in sports medicine.”

Live Surgery of the knee and elbow will be performed in the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute’s highly automated operating theaters and followed live in the Campanacci lecture hall by 100 experts from various European countries. Prof. Marcacci will perform a surgical biological joint reconstruction of the knee, while the French surgeon Dr. Lafosse will perform a stabilization of the shoulder and Dr. Pederzini from Modena will perform a stabilization of the elbow.

The meeting is a debate on new techniques, that are performed live in sessions of live surgery and are discussed to decide development of the next steps in surgical treatment in athletes. “Today in this field always more satisfying cure rates are obtained – says Marcacci – and now those same methods are also used in “normal” patients.
