Fourteen points to reorganize the terms between the University of Bologna and the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, that as a public Scientific Institute for Research and Healthcare is “another site” of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Bologna for all activity related to orthopaedics. The Local Executive Agreement was undersigned today, in the presence of the Regional Counsellor to Health Policies Carlo Lusenti, the Alma Mater Chancellor Ivano Dionigi and by Rizzoli Chief Executive Officer Giovanni Baldi.
The positive impact of this new Agreement comes from the more structured implant that designs modalities by which University and Rizzoli work together in the fields of healthcare, research and teaching: a clearer assignment of roles and thus more guarantee for structures to function better, with positive results on services offered to citizens, represented by healthcare services in the short-term and by results in research and teaching in the long-term, these forming the bases for future healthcare.
Amongst others, the Agreement defines the structures (wards and research laboratories) under university management and those under hospital management, the regulations for hospital staff and the evaluation system used, the participation of National Health Service staff in teaching, and the management of spaces.
Rizzoli is the main location for Post Graduate Schools in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; for teaching Orthopaedics for the degree in Medicine and Motor Science, as well as for three-year degrees in (podology, orthopaedic technician, and physiotherapist) and for Masters in Nursing.
“The relationship between University and Rizzoli is interlocked in Rizzoli’s same nature – commented Baldi, the Executive Officer. – The Institute was born from Prof. Francsco Rizzoli’s, professor at the University and famous surgeon, generous and stubborn intuition. During the over one hundred years that have passed, the relationship with the University has always continued. With this new Agreement we intend making its organization smoother and easier to run.”
The Chancellor underlined that - “Rizzoli is a glory for the University and for the Town of Bologna – because it renown worldwide for its excellent researchers and staff. The new Local Executive Agreement highlights research and teaching activity together with healthcare services. Beyond the shared satisfaction in signing today’s Agreement, it is necessary to keep in mind the double importance of this Executive Agreement: centrality of the patient and centrality of the student. I also want to stress the difficult conditions in which physicians and healthcare givers work, being daily conditioned by reduction of staff, budget commitments, attention from media and legal proceedings that often, with superficiality, discredit and degrade the most useful and noble job in the world.”
