Introduction
Clinical Practice
Rizzoli Institute’s Unit of Orthopaedics and Traumatology dislocated at the Hospital of Bentivoglio, is active in the field of general orthopaedics and traumatology with particular clinical and scientific interests in:
- hip diseases;
- pseudoarthrosis and fracture nonunions;
- diseases of the foot;
- treatment of tendinopathies with growth factors;
- diseases of the shoulder treated by open surgery and arthroscopy.
Patient Accomodation
The Orthopaedics and Traumatology Ward includes:
- a hospitalization ward in Orthopaedics and Traumatology
- A Day Surgery
- Space dedicated to outpatient surgery (maximum 6 patients per day)
The ward has 17 beds, organized in 8 rooms with 2 beds, and 1 room with 1 bed. All rooms have a bathroom. A physician is present in the ward Monday to Saturday from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. The outpatient clinics are located at the Bentivoglio Hospital and at the structures of the Bologna East Hospital District:

Research Activity
Clinical research is centered on:
- the study of prosthetic implants used as first implant and in revisions;
- the effects of growth factors in tendinopathies with particular regards to pathologies of the Achilles tendon, plantar fasciitis and epicondylites;
- the study of pseudoarthrosis and nonunions treated with bone bank grafts and with external fixation (Ilizarov);
- the study of hip traumas in the elderly.
