Volunteer Surgery in developing countries:

  • From 2011: in charge of the orthopaedics team at the Halibet Hospital, Asmara, Eritrea, as instructor to train local orthopedic surgeons in collaboration with the association “Annulliamo la Distanza ONLUS”.
  • From 2010: visiting Professor & Surgical Instructor at the hospital of Bafut, Camerun.
  • From 2000: in collaboration with the “Orthopaedics Onlus” Association, he has put in work a department of pediatric Orthopedics at the Children's Hospital in Mlali (Kongwa, Tanzania). He started the surgical activity in August 2000 as a volunteer surgeon at the same hospital, and performed a total of 30 expeditions (15 as responsible of the orthopedic team). 

By December 2018, Dr. Traina has published more than 150 scientific works, including: 91 articles published on peer reviewed and PubMed indexed journals, 37 works published on scientific journals or books, 8 papers published on Italian Journals of Orthopaedics & Trauma surgery, 10 chapters in text books and 18 scientific videos. 

More than 500 presentations at national and international congresses mostly on THR and TKR, including 12 lectures as invited guest, 36 Scientific Exhibit or Videos at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting. 

Most scientific papers are on hip replacement.
