Bibliographical searching

The librarians carry out bibliographic research for the internal personnel who must fill out a special form containing information of the doctor employed at the hospital and the subject of interest.

The databank mainly used is PubMed of the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda which provides worldwide to the world, biomedical literature from 1950's to the present.

For books, articles and abstracts of congresses connect to Gateway site.

For a more in-depth search into the nature of oncology, connect to the National Cancer Institute (U.S.A)site.

The librarians give periodic lessons of how to start an online library search with information of how to find all the information you want.

Since 2001 it has been possible to look up, using the library computer, original version texts online at Cochraine databank website, concerning systematic revision and protocol. This website can be accessed from your own workplace, with only abstracts being available.

For more information about the Cochraine databank and about Evidence Based Medicine, the user can look up the Italian website of GIMBE.

The nurses may come into the library to consult the CINHAL databank, specific to their profession.
