New stage of the agreement between Rizzoli and Company USL of Piacenza
January 14th, 2025The surgical activity of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute at the hospital of Castel San Giovanni has started. In this first phase, we start with hip prosthesis interventions, to continue, as planned, with sessions dedicated also to the foot, ankle, knee, hand and wrist.
The general manager of the USL company in Piacenza, Paola Bardasi: a strategic offer for our patients, a collaboration project between companies in the region and among system professionals.
"We are working in a concrete and effective way to the collaboration project between the Ausl of Piacenza and its professionals, orthopedic, anaesthetists, physiotherapists and assistance staff, and the Irccs Rizzoli to consolidate the vocation of the presidium of Val Tidone as a pole of elective surgery with particular attention to orthopaedics - comments the general director of the USL Company of Piacenza Paola Bardasi - It is not a novelty in absolute, a confirmation and an evolution of a synergy that links our health care with the team of the Bologna center. For over a decade, in fact, Piacenza has been collaborating with the Rizzoli, which operates in our hospitals for some high-level specialist expertise such as pediatric orthopedics and oncological orthopaedics for which the Institute is a regional reference. Today we are able to further develop this alliance in a key area such as the orthopaedic choice. Our anaesthesiologists led by Ruggero Massimo Corso, director of the department of intensive therapy, anesthesiology and pain therapy, the specialist hospital doctors with advisory function and the staff of department under the coordination of Michela Sanseveri, will work alongside and in synergy with the specialists from Bologna directed by Cesare Faldini, Director of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic and Traumatological Clinic 1. This new opportunity - continues the general manager - represents the completion of a business system already virtuous in the treatment of traumatology and orthogeriatrics, as well as in the urgent and elective pathologies of the presidio of Piacenza, under the direction of Professor Pietro Maniscalco, director of Orthopedics and Traumatology Piacenza".
The start of the new organisation
Patients are admitted to the hospital ward located on the first floor of block A reserved exclusively for residents of Rizzoli. The professionals operate in a dedicated operating room and can also count on a rehabilitation gym, in view of the activation of the Rizzoli Rehabilitation planned in the second phase of the project.
Patients are called on the basis of the waiting list drawn up by professionals from Bologna who, since summer to date, have made outpatient visits in the Val Tidone garrison: currently there are about forty patients who have already taken pre-covers.
The scheduled surgical sessions, which will be gradually increased, will take place from Monday to Friday, mostly in the morning. They can be extended to some afternoon hours.
At the same time, the outpatient activity continues, with new visits, pre-hospitalization activities and post-intervention checks.
To start the project, the AUSL has planned a progressive increase in resources from the assistance staff: there are thirty professionals, including nurses, physiotherapists and social health workers, already operational.
The staff conducted classroom and field training with colleagues in Bologna, placing particular emphasis on the operation room and inpatient care, encouraging the exchange of good practices and improving clinical expertise. These operators, as well as the team of anaesthetists, will support the orthopaedic doctors in Bologna: six or seven doctors in all between the operating room, outpatient access and control visits and hospitalization.
"It has been a year since we announced the signing of the agreement for the hospital of Castel San Giovanni - says the general manager of Rizzoli Anselmo Campagna. - A year in which dozens of professionals from the two health companies, involved in the many different areas needed to run a hospital every day, they discussed how to give this idea of collaboration an operational and efficient form. We have gradually structured it, with the fundamental passage of outpatient visits, the first moment of concrete contact with citizens, and today we are ready to start with what is a crucial element in much of the orthopaedic care path, the surgical activity.
We start, again and always with the approach that characterizes us as Irccs: we are a research hospital and the principle of continuous experimentation towards improvement is applied in all our actions, not only in the laboratories of the Bologna headquarters, not only in the international research projects of which we are coordinators, but also in the design of our organisational models. For this I thank the territory of Val Tidone, its administrators and its administrators, its citizens and its citizens, as well as the management and all the staff of the Usl Company of Piacenza, for the trust given to us; It is our firm intention to build together an opportunity for care that combines excellence and proximity, with the on-going adjustments that each innovation research project requires but with the certainty of a shared goal and maximum value for the community."
