The sailboat improves movement and improves psychological state: it is the data collected on adolescents between 12 and 18 years old who participated in the pilot phase of the “Ready to Sail” project of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna that confirm that sailing activity can positively impact the health of those with rare skeletal diseases.

A completely renovated area of 1400 square meters hosts the Intensive Care Department of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna. A space designed to be comfortable and functional, for patients and healthcare personnel, with particular attention to brightness, spacious environments, clear and intuitive paths. A total investment of almost 6 million euros.

A radiological diagnostic instrument which allows to make radiographic evaluations, commonly called plates, in an upright position (under load) of the spine, of the lower limbs and total body, with fast, accurate acquisitions and with minimum dose of X-rays: the EOS Edge system was acquired by the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna-IRCCS, the first public facility in Italy to adopt this technology.

Today opens a  technological laboratory entirely dedicated to the design and 3D printing of prostheses and customized prototypes, realized thanks to the support of the Rizzoli Foundation and the generosity of a group of twenty donors led by founding member Giovanni Domenichini. This is the novelty presented today at the IRCCS Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, a research hospital recognized by the Ministry of Health as an IRCCS since 1981.

New therapies and networks of biobanks for musculoskeletal tumors and rare diseases, innovations in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, new solutions to reduce the impact of prosthetic failure and improve vertebral surgery techniques: 6.630.275 euro are the PNRR funding of the Ministry of Health with which the IRCSS Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute of Bologna will develop seven projects approved in the field of biomedical research.

Treatment of tumors and musculoskeletal metastases for therapeutic, palliative and preoperative purposes, trauma and inflammatory lesions, execution of cutting-edge techniques such as cryotherapy and delicate examinations including bone biopsies. It is now possible to do all this at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute of Bologna through a new equipment of the latest generation, an AngioTAC acquired thanks to an investment of 2 million euros.

Today, the Children’s Space of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute was inaugurated, a project designed for the children of employees and users who access the hospital or the polyclinic. It is located on the ground floor of the monumental building of the hospital and will welcome children between 3 and 6 years old, from Monday to Friday (in the morning, from 8 am to 1 pm).

Emilia Romagna Region, through a review of the Economic and Finance Regional Document, has declared the financing of 2.2 million Euro to renovate the rooftop, the terrace of the modern Hospital building where is a view of Bologna.

Innovation and 3D prints that can be useful to medical implants customized, meniscus transplant studies, spinal fusion surgery, shoulder rotator cuff reconstruction, treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The research project that The Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute has received from the Ministry of Health are 6. In the next 3 years will be funded EUR 2.3 million overall.

On the symbolic day of 28 June 2022 (the anniversary of the Institute's birth) the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute Foundation was established with the aim of supporting Rizzoli in its numerous projects. The Foundation was in fact established with three main aims - support for Rizzoli's commitment to improving the quality of care, treatment and welcome to patients - support for the Institute's scientific research activities;
