The new Intensive Care Unit, a completely renovated area of 1400 sqm, has been inaugurated today
January 30th, 2025A completely renovated area of 1400 square meters hosts the Intensive Care Department of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna. A space designed to be comfortable and functional, for patients and healthcare personnel, with particular attention to brightness, spacious environments, clear and intuitive paths. A total investment of almost 6 million euros.
The inauguration was attended by the Director General of Rizzoli Anselmo Campagna, the Councillor for Health Policies of the Emilia-Romagna Region Massimo Fabi and the Councillor for International Relations and European funds of the Municipality of Bologna Anna Lisa Boni.
The department has three distinct macro-areas: two low intensity, which include waiting room, acceptance, medical offices, changing rooms, and a high intensity in which there are intensive boxes, operating boxes, infected patient boxes, nurses' work space. All sensitive areas are appropriately protected by filter rooms and made as transparent as possible so that they can always be controlled by the medical-nursing team, placed in a barycentric position. The distribution of spaces also guarantees simplicity of movement of beds and ease in reaching patients quickly.
In the department, post-operative care is guaranteed to patients undergoing highly complex orthopaedic, orthopaedic, oncologic, vertebral, pediatric and thoracopulmonary surgeries.
"Intensive Care is at the heart of the activity of a surgical hospital like Rizzoli - emphasizes the general director Anselmo Campagna. - Providing it with space and equipment to allow medical and health personnel to perform their delicate task was an essential objective. Not easy to achieve since the complete renovation of these spaces has been interwoven with two other interventions, the earthquake adaptation of the entire hospital monobloc and the restructuring of the first floor for the transfer of the day surgery. But this work is an important step in ensuring that the excellence of the Rizzoli continues to be at the service of all citizens who need it."
"The restructuring of such a strategic department for a hospital structure as intensive care - says Massimo Fabi, regional councillor for health policies - represents an important and complex achievement, But also a clear sign of the regional health commitment to strengthen the public health system with ever more modern structures and technologies and cutting-edge services. The new department, which is added to the earthquake adaptation works and other significant interventions performed, is an example of how space and technology can support the work of healthcare workers while providing patients with comfortable, modern environments. A further leap forward for the Irccs Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, already excellence of our health and national and international reference point".
