Sarcoma as a model to improve diagnosis and clinical care of rare tumors through a European and Latin American multidisciplinary network

Duration
2019 - 2023
Description

The SELNET project aims to create a European and Latin American multidisciplinary network of clinical specialists and expert researchers in the field of sarcomas to refine the diagnosis and improve the conduct of clinical trials with the ultimate aim of increasing the survival of Latin American patients suffering from sarcoma.

Sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of rare and life-threatening solid neoplasms affecting soft tissue and bone, with an incidence of approximately 6 cases/100,000 per year in Europe.

Appropriate management of sarcoma patients is complex, and this complexity is exacerbated in the community of Latin American and Caribbean states due to the scarcity of specialist centers of reference, expert pathologists, innovative anticancer drugs, clinical trials, patient registries, and financial resources.
