Positions held
Since 1991 he has been working at the Laboratorio di Tecnologia Medica of the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, and he is the responsible of the “development and evaluation of biomedical technologies” group. Fabio Baruffaldi collaborates to research projects regarding imaging in orthopaedics and the technology transfer to the clinical orthopaedic practice, such as:
  • European project VIRTUS (eTEN): toward large scale diffusion of telemedicine services (2001-2003);
  • Regional project HandHealth: for the validation of new handheld devices in the orthopaedic practice (2004-2006);
  • Project for the validation of computer aided medicine in orthopaedics, co-financed by the Health Ministry (2005-2007);
  • European project LHDL: Living Human Digital Library, an Interactive digital library services to access collections of complex biomedical data on the musculo-skeletal apparatus, (2006-2009);
  • Progetto di ricerca finalizzata HandHealth for Oncology (H2O): valutazione di sistemi per la tracciabilità del farmaco chemioterapico (2007-2010);
  • Regional project HandHealth for Oncology (H2O): validation of traceability systems for the management of chemotherapy treatment;
  • European project VPHOP: Osteoporotic Virtual Physiological Human, modelling technologies for the prediction of the individual risk fracture due to osteoporosis (2009-2012).
Fabio Baruffaldi is also working on microtomography techniques (micro-CT) for the investigation of bone tissues and biomaterials, in strict connection with the other units of the lab working on biomechanical characterization.
