€5,230 awarded, proceeds from the "Filippo Mondelli Challenge"
November 27th, 2025At the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute of Bologna, the "Fiamme Gialle" and hospital staff gathered in memory of rowing champion Filippo Mondelli, who passed away prematurely in 2021 because of osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone tumor.
On this occasion, which has become an annual gathering, the sum of €5,230 was symbolically presented, the entire proceeds of the "Challenge Filippo Mondelli," an online promotional event for Indoor Rowing organized by the "Fiamme Gialle" together with the "Io sono Filippo" Association with the aim of raising funds for cancer research.
Inside the historic Vasari Hall, in the Monumental Wing of Rizzoli, the Institute's General Director Andrea Rossi welcomed the delegation of Guardia di Finanza, thanking the "Fiamme Gialle" for once again demonstrating their support for the Institute's research, contributing this year to the purchase of a headset for the use of augmented reality in surgical oncology resections.
Dr. Giuseppe Bianchi, surgeon at the 3rd Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Clinic prevalently Oncologic at Rizzoli, explained in detail the use of the headset purchased with the donation and illustrated the advantages of applying this technology in the operating room.
Major Danilo Cassoni, Commander of the III Athletes' Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, emphasized how important it is for the "Fiamme Gialle" to continue organizing demonstrations in memory of Filippo, whose sister Elisa Mondelli, vice-champion of the rowing world, participated in the meeting, which was attended by the Commander of the II Group of the Guardia di Finanza of Bologna, Col. Lorenzo Levita.
